Prophetstown State Park
Battleground, Indiana
Kevin K. Parsons &
Associates was the planning and design consultant for the Phase I Design,
Construction documentation, and Construction Administration for Prophetstown
State Park. The project included a total revision of the earlier master
plan for the park due to the discovery of a large ‘fen’ wetland
on the property, which became a primary natural feature of the 3000 acre
‘prairie style ‘ park. Extensive cultural, natural history
and archaeological features within the park site and provide for educational
and interpretive activities. A 2.5 mile long bike and hiking trail is
included through the entire phase 1 of the park. Phase 1 includes: a 110
site universal family campground, a unique glacial boulder faced highway
bridge, native landscapes, ADA playgrounds, rest areas, picnic areas,
nature center, park roads, signage and more.
This unique project was planned and designed utilizing
‘green’ and sustainable design practices where feasible. The
theme was based on the use of indigenous and site based materials, native
plants, and the original post glaciation prairies. Glacial boulders were
from on-site sources and became the unifying building material throughout.
