South Downtown Corridor Improvements Project
Indianapolis, Indiana
KPA was part of a multi-disciplinary
design team for this downtown transportation enhancement and ‘gateway’
project. Included with the street reconstruction were enhanced entries
into the City from I-70 at the McCarty Street ramps, Madison Avenue, McCarty
Street, South Meridian Street, and Merrill Street. These streets serve
and surround the expanded corporate Faris campus of Eli Lilly & Co.,
and a new visual ‘high image’ streetscape was required. KPA
designed the project that includes new streetscape plantings throughout
the street rights-of-way. New Saturn ring street lights, deciduous and
coniferous street trees, flowering bulbs, perennials, shrubs and ornamental
trees complete the palate. Each street hosts a varying, yet integrated
application of plantings designed for both function and aesthetics. The
area was irrigated to insure prolonged plant life and to maximize the
vegetation impact. KPA also provided construction inspection and administration.
